Why gute Laune

gute Laune is German. It means good mood.

The kind of mood you feel sitting down on a restaurant bench with past, present, and future good friends. Taking turns sharing life’s latest curveballs. Enjoying the happy haze of the best hefeweizen you’ve had this year. Sure, it can be that kind of good mood. But it also means something deeper. It’s good humor. It’s a good spirit.

It’s the spirit of making a food space that’s rancher-led, butcher-led, and community-led. The people who till the fields, move the livestock, and raise your meat are the stars of the show. Bringing the very best from the pasture on the horizon to the tray on your table. It’s the feeling when substance beats style. Where you can hold a real beer stein with heft in your hand. But most of all, it’s the feeling when the people who make the meat and the people who eat it can sit at the same table. When everyone in our Bozeman community can come together and share in the spirit of great food.

This is the wurst hotdog joint I have ever been in. It is a sausage fest … and it is so good! Located upstairs from the Rialto Theater on Bozeman, Montana’s Main Street, Gute Laune specializes in some seriously awesome German hipster cuisine. The place has a feel of a Bavarian bratwurst speakeasy. The menu boasts six different bratwurst varieties but also includes Lion’s Mane Mushroom Schnitzel, a Bavarian picnic plate (charcuterie), a kielbasa Philly, and a Bohemian truffle flatbread with a rotating selection of German beers and ciders. I had The Bavarian bratwurst — a classic brat topped with tangy sauerkraut, sweet mustard, and crispy fried onions on a pretzel bun — with a Bembel cider. I added the fries and they could’ve fed three people. So good! The service was great and the vibe was mellow. Give this place a try if you are in Bozeman and looking for something a little different.

Fun atmosphere and something a little different! We enjoyed the pretzel bites to start along with stein beers- really fun! I had the Kölsch on draft while my husband had the Praga; both were excellent and great to see on tap. The sausages were tasty, and the service was prompt. Nice view of Bozeman's Main Street!

Love this place so much! Just FYI, all this food pairs well with Mountains Walking Grazing Clouds that they have on draft. The service was incredible. Our server was kind, knowledgeable about the menu, and had a really positive attitude. The food and beer were amazing. I photographed the dishes we tried and was so happy that there were clearly labeled vegetarian items. So many items could be made vegan as well (as their menu clearly indicated was available upon request). The food is very family friendly. There are two dining areas and both are gorgeous. Can’t wait to head back again.
